Professor
Mariapaola D'Imperio is a Professor at Aix-Marseille University and the Laboratoire Parole et Langage (CNRS UMR 7309), leading the Prosody Group since 2006. She holds a PhD in Linguistics from The Ohio State University (2000) and an HDR from Paris III University (2005). Previously, she was a Professor at Rutgers University (2019–2023). Her roles include Associate Editor of the Journal of Phonetics (2016–2023) and leadership in the Association for Laboratory Phonology (2016–2020). She currently serves on the ISCA Editorial Board (since 2021) and chairs the IPA Social Media and Outreach Committee. Her research spans intonational phonology, prosody production/perception in Italian/French, phonetic convergence, and gesture acquisition in children. Recent work explores sarcasm processing in L1/L2, musical cognition's role in language, and ERP/eye-tracking in sentence comprehension. Funded by the Institut Universitaire de France (2011–2016), her contributions bridge laboratory phonology with cognitive and developmental linguistics. She leads the Prosody Group at Laboratoire Parole et Langage, advancing interdisciplinary studies on speech and cognition.
