Olivier Bonaventure is a Full Professor of Computer Science at Université catholique de Louvain (UCL), where he leads the IP Networking Lab within the Department of Computing Science and Engineering at the Louvain School of Engineering. With over three decades of experience in networking research, he has established himself as a leading figure in Internet protocol design and implementation. His research focuses on: Transport layer protocols including Multipath TCP and QUIC Protocol extensibility using eBPF technology BGP routing protocol innovations Network security and performance optimization Open educational resources for computer networking Professor Bonaventure's recent work centers on making Internet protocols more extensible through eBPF integration, enabling faster innovation cycles beyond traditional standardization processes. His research has practical applications in hybrid access networks, smartphone connectivity, and cloud infrastructure. His notable achievements include: IEEE INFOCOM'2007 best paper award USENIX NSDI Community award (2012) Open-textbook award from Saylor Foundation (2012) Conext'21 community award for TCPLS 2021 Applied Networking Research Prize for xBGP He has held significant leadership positions including Education Director for ACM SIGCOMM (2010-2016), Editor-in-chief of ACM SIGCOMM Computer Communication Review (2016-2020), and department head at UCL. His educational contributions include the widely adopted open-source textbook "Computer Networking: Principles, Protocols and Practice" and several influential courses at UCLouvain. He leads a research team that spans multiple projects including Multipath TCP deployment, QUIC extensions, and the pluginized protocols research agenda, with publications appearing regularly in top networking conferences and journals.
