Professor
Yuki Suzuki is a Professor in the Department of Earth Sciences, Resources and Environmental Engineering at Waseda University's School of Education. She holds a Doctor of Science degree from the University of Tokyo and serves as a visiting researcher at the University of Tokyo's Earthquake Research Institute. Her academic career includes positions as Associate Professor at Waseda University (2017-2023) and research roles at the University of Tokyo. Professor Suzuki specializes in volcanology, with research interests focused on volcanic ash characterization, magma dynamics, eruption processes, and disaster prevention engineering. Her work combines field observations, petrological analysis, and experimental approaches to understand magma ascent, eruption triggering mechanisms, and volcanic hazard assessment. She has made significant contributions to understanding the 2011 Shinmoe-dake eruption, Haruna volcano's history, and Sinabung Volcano's ongoing activity. Her recent publications demonstrate a consistent focus on eruption dynamics, with particular attention to the relationship between magma properties and eruption styles. She has developed innovative methods for analyzing volcanic ash color systematics and microlite textures to monitor ongoing eruptions. Her research bridges fundamental volcanology with practical applications for volcanic hazard mitigation.
