Associate Professor
Michelle Flood is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of the MPharm Programme at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) School of Pharmacy and Biomolecular Sciences. She holds dual expertise as a pharmacist and health services researcher, focusing on human-centered design and patient-centered healthcare solutions. Her research emphasizes improving primary care outcomes through interdisciplinary approaches, with over €8.8 million in research funding secured. Education: BSc (Pharmacy), RCSI (2002–2006) MSc (Healthcare Management), RCSI (2008–2010) PhD (Technology Enhanced Learning and eResearch in Medical Education), Lancaster University (2013–2018) Certificate in User Experience Design, Dún Laoghaire Institute (2019–2020) Research Interests: Combining human-centered design with health services research to address systemic healthcare challenges. Key areas include patient and public involvement (PPI) in preclinical research, medication safety, healthcare policy, and medical education innovation. She leads the RCSI PPI Ignite Network Office and is an associate editor for Health Expectations . Grants & Awards: €4.5M as principal investigator, Fulbright Scholar (2018), National Teaching Hero Awards (2014, 2020), RCSI Alumni Award (2024). Her work spans over 69 publications, focusing on prescribing patterns, patient-centered methodologies, and healthcare system optimization. Teaching & Leadership: Contributes to pharmacy, medicine, and physiotherapy education at RCSI. Awards include National Forum Fellowship (2020) for interdisciplinary teaching research. Previously worked part-time as lead pharmacist in the national vaccination program (2021–2022). Labs/Teams: Academic lead for RCSI’s PPI initiatives and part of the Health Professions Education and Population Health research clusters.
