Dr Katherine Quinn is a Lecturer in the School of Social Sciences at Cardiff University, appointed in February 2022. She previously served as a post-doctoral research fellow at the Wales Institute of Social and Economic Research and Data (WISERD) from late 2020. Her research employs ethnographic methods to explore knowledge classifications and spatial practices in educational environments, particularly libraries and university campuses. She holds a PhD from the University of Warwick (2020), focusing on the integrated library The Hive in England. Her current research includes an ethnographic study of Cardiff University’s Social Science Research Park (SPARK), examining its implications for social science futures, and a project on social learning spaces funded by the University Design Forum. Collaborators include Drs. Jamie Lewis, Rachel Hurdley, and Hiral Patel. She also specializes in qualitative and creative methodologies, including drawing and writing in research. Dr Quinn’s work addresses themes such as institutional discourses, neoliberalism in education, and the role of libraries in public life. Her projects combine empirical fieldwork with theoretical analysis, aiming to inform both academic and practical understandings of learning environments.
