Lucas Meyer de Freitas is a Lecturer at the Department of Civil, Environmental and Geomatic Engineering at ETH Zurich, affiliated with the Institute of Transport Planning and Systems (IVT). His research focuses on transport behavior modeling, agent-based systems, public transport planning, cycling infrastructure design, and net-zero transport futures. He holds a Dipl. Ing. in Civil Engineering from the Federal University of Rio de Janeiro, an MSc from ETH Zurich, and a CAS in Applied Statistics. Professional experience includes roles as a transport planner at EBP Schweiz AG and research assistant at IVT. Key research interests include cycling infrastructure preferences, the role of physical capabilities in cycling adoption, and high-speed rail network optimization. He leads projects like EBIS (E-Biking in Switzerland) and the E-Bike City initiative, exploring sustainable mobility transitions. His work combines empirical analysis with policy-oriented insights, addressing challenges in urban accessibility and decarbonization. Publications span Transportation, Transportation Research Part A, and the Journal of Transport Geography, with a focus on infrastructure design, mode-choice dynamics, and policy evaluation. He contributes to courses on transport policy, planning methods, and spatial development.
