Assistant Professor
Burt Todd serves as an Assistant Professor and Department Chairman in the Department of Petroleum Engineering within the Lance College of Mines & Engineering at Montana Technological University. He earned a B.S. in Petroleum Engineering from Montana Tech (1979), followed by a Master's degree from the same institution, and completed his Ph.D. at the University of Kansas under Paul Willhite and Don Green. His doctoral research on in situ gelation earned the Outstanding Ph.D. Research award in 1990. Todd's research centers on Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR), with emphasis on numerical modeling of gelation processes for conformance control. He also investigates well completions/stimulation (particularly perforation geometry and skin effects) and low-rate gas well operations near depletion. His work bridges theoretical modeling with practical field applications in petroleum engineering. His publication history from 1986-2013 reveals consistent focus on EOR and well performance, evolving from early perforation studies to advanced numerical modeling and recent Bakken formation feasibility research under Montana Board of Oil and Gas funding.
