Mikhail Zamkov is a Professor in the Department of Physics & Astronomy at Bowling Green State University (BGSU) , within the College of Arts and Sciences . He holds a B.S. from Krasnoyarsk State University, Russia and a Ph.D. from Kansas State University, USA , with postdoctoral experience at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign and Kansas State University. Research Focus : Zamkov's work centers on electronic and optical properties of semiconductor nanocrystals , particularly colloidal quantum dots and hybrid nanomaterials . His group explores synthesis, optoelectronic characterization, and integration of nanoscale devices , including interfaces with biological systems . Key areas include photocatalysis, exciton dynamics, energy transfer mechanisms, and suppression of Auger recombination to enhance lasing and solar energy conversion. Recent Publications highlight quantum shells for stimulated emission , colloidal nanocrystals in scintillation , and two-dimensional electron-hole plasmas for tunable lasing . His research addresses photocorrosion challenges in nanocrystal-based systems and proposes ligand engineering and defect passivation strategies. Scientific Recognition includes the 2019 Professor of Research Excellence Award (BGSU) , 2017 Research Exemplar Scholar (Washington University School of Medicine) , and the 2014 Olscamp Research Award for young investigators . Students & Collaborators include Dulanjan Harankahage , Jiamin Huang , Divesh Nazar , and Amelia Dawn Waters , who contribute to experimental studies on nanocrystal solids , photocatalytic systems , and charge transfer phenomena . His group also investigates triplet exciton harvesting and nanocrystal assemblies for multi-electron reactions .
