Alvydas Lukys is a Full Professor and Chair of the PhD Committee of Fine Arts at Vilnius Academy of Arts' Photography and Media Arts Department (within the Academic Department of Humanities and Arts). Born in Šiauliai (1958), he graduated from Vilnius Gediminas Technical University (1984) and has been a core academic figure since 1990, co-founding the Image Studio and leading departmental reforms. His research focuses on media psychology, photography theory, and cultural anthropology, with curatorial expertise in contemporary art. Education: BSc in Engineering from Vilnius Engineering Construction Institute (1984). Professional milestones include founding the Photography and Video Art Department (now Photography and Media Arts Department) and serving as Head of key studios. A prominent Lithuanian artist, he has exhibited globally since 1978, with solo shows in Vilnius, Berlin, Frankfurt, and group exhibitions across Europe. Research interests integrate artistic practice with academic inquiry, emphasizing cultural memory, everyday aesthetics, and photography's role in contemporary society. His works are held by institutions like the Lithuanian Art Museum and Denmark's Brandts Museum of Photographic Art.
