Viviane Namaste is a Full Professor at the Simone de Beauvoir Institute and Women's Studies Department at Concordia University. Her work bridges critical social science with HIV/AIDS and sexual health research, focusing on marginalized populations such as trans people and Haitians. Education : PhD in Sémiologie from UQAM, MA in Arts from York University's Sociology Department, BA in Arts from Carleton University's Sociology Department. Her research interrogates the limitations of knowledge in HIV/AIDS and gender studies, emphasizing feminist theory, community-based approaches, and transnational health disparities. She has taught courses like Sexuality Theory Before Stonewall and Feminist Action Research , contributing to feminist pedagogy. Recent publications explore intersections between public health, censorship, and transgender political economy. Awards include the Provost’s Circle of Distinction (2012) and the Grand prix du Conseil Québécois des Gais et des Lesbiennes (2010).
