Bernard Karol Kontny is a Polish geodesist and professor at the Wrocław University of Environmental and Life Sciences , specializing in engineering geodesy , satellite geodesy , and geodynamics . He has served as Dean of the Faculty of Environmental Engineering and Geodesy since 2012 and previously held the Vice-Dean position (2005-2012). Education: M.Sc. in Engineering, Agricultural University in Wrocław (1982) Ph.D. in Technical Sciences (Geodesy and Cartography), University of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn (1991) Habilitation in Technical Sciences (Geodesy and Cartography), University of Agriculture and Technology in Olsztyn (2004) His research interests focus on geodetic monitoring of rock mass deformations , GPS-based geodynamics , and tectonic strain analysis . His work includes deformation studies in the Polish Sudetes, Fore-Sudetic Block, and Mediterranean regions, with applications to engineering safety and natural hazard assessment . Key scientific trends from his publications include GNSS time series analysis , wavelet-based noise modeling , seasonal signal estimation , and integration of permanent and campaign-based GPS measurements for regional velocity field modeling across Central Europe. Awards: Silver Cross of Merit (2006) Gold Cross of Merit (2023) Silver Badge, Association of Polish Surveyors (2006) 10 Rector's Awards (2 individual, 8 team) 2 organizational activity awards As an organizational leader , he developed geodetic infrastructure through projects like "ASG+" and contributed to the GEOSUD/SUDETEN network for cross-border geodynamic research. His work bridges geodetic precision with tectonic risk mitigation for engineering structures.
