Dr. Wibke Busch is the Department Leader of Ecotoxicology and Group Leader of "iTox-Integrative Toxicology" at the Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research – UFZ in Leipzig, Germany. With a career spanning over 15 years at UFZ, she has led interdisciplinary research on molecular and systems toxicology, chemical mixtures, and environmental risk assessment. Key Roles: Department Leader (2024–present), Group Leader (2018–2023), Scientist (2011–2018) Education: PhD in Toxicity of Engineered Nanoparticles (2010), Dipl. Ing. (FH) in Process Engineering (2005) Her research focuses on toxicogenomics , data-driven toxicology , and hazard assessment of chemical mixtures , particularly PFAS and nanoparticles . She has developed frameworks for integrating multi-omics data and pioneered FAIR-compliant workflows for high-content screening. Selected Scientific Awards 2019 UFZ Research Award with EU SOLUTIONS Team 2016 Cefic-LRI Innovative Science Award 2011 SETAC GLB Best PhD Thesis Award Over 2021–2025, her 15 most recent publications reveal trends in zebrafish embryo models , computational toxicology , and environmental data infrastructure . She collaborates extensively with European institutions and contributes to tools like the INTOB Database and ChEOS Project . Grants & Projects include EU H2020 initiatives, nanoINHALE (2024–2025), and SafePol (2025–2027). Her work bridges experimental and computational approaches to address real-world pollutant mixtures in aquatic systems.
