Professor
Douglas J. Jerolmack holds dual academic roles as the Edmund J. and Louise W. Kahn Endowed Term Professor of Earth and Environmental Science and Professor of Mechanical Engineering and Applied Mechanics at the University of Pennsylvania. His affiliations include the School of Arts & Sciences and cross-departmental ties to engineering disciplines. He serves as the Graduate Chair for the Department of Earth and Environmental Science. Education: PhD in Geophysics from MIT (2006); BSc in Environmental Engineering from Drexel University (2001). His research focuses on experimental geophysics and geomorphology, exploring Earth's surface dynamics through lab experiments, fieldwork, and numerical modeling. Key interests include fluid-driven sediment transport (water/wind), landform evolution (dunes, river channels, deltas), stochastic processes, and landscape responses to climate change. His work bridges geology, mechanics, and planetary science. No specific articles are listed here, but his publications emphasize interdisciplinary approaches to Earth surface systems. He teaches courses like Earth Surface Processes and Advanced Numerical Methods in Earth Science. His research group collaborates across disciplines, and he leads initiatives at the Water Center and LPS Master of Environmental Studies Program.
