Dr. Arne Bomblies is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at the University of Vermont (UVM). His research focuses on the intersection of climate change and societal impacts, with a particular emphasis on hydrology, extreme weather events, and disease transmission. He holds a Ph.D. from MIT (2009), an M.S. from the University of Colorado (1999), and a B.S. from Cornell University (1996), and is a registered environmental engineer in Vermont. Dr. Bomblies' work spans multiple domains: climatic and hydrologic impacts on malaria transmission in regions like Niger, Ethiopia, and Madagascar; modeling extreme precipitation events in the northeastern U.S.; and investigating climate-to-flood linkages in high-elevation watersheds such as Mt. Mansfield. His fieldwork and computational models address challenges in water resource management, including lake nutrient dynamics, floodplain connectivity, and infrastructure resilience. Key projects include the Sleepers River long-term catchment study, the Mt. Mansfield Watershed research, and climate change impact assessments in Lake Champlain's Missisquoi Basin. His expertise in hydrology and environmental engineering is reflected in courses taught at UVM, including Hydrology (CE260), Advanced Hydrology (CE262), and Climate Change Impacts (CE295). His publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to environmental challenges, combining remote sensing (e.g., LiDAR), hydraulic modeling, and agent-based simulations to address climate adaptation. Current research emphasizes bridging natural and human systems through sociohydrology frameworks, integrating policy, ecology, and engineering solutions.
