Associate Professor
Krzysztof Kredens is a Reader (Associate Professor) in Forensic Linguistics at the Aston Institute for Forensic Linguistics, part of the School of English, Languages and Applied Linguistics at Aston University. He holds a MA in English Studies (Lodz) and a PhD in English Linguistics (Lodz). As Director of the Aston Institute, he leads research in forensic linguistics with a focus on authorship analysis and communication barriers in justice systems. His research interests include individual language variation for forensic authorship analysis, theoretical and practical aspects of idiolect, and improving communication in policing contexts. He actively engages in casework as an expert witness and advises on interpreting practices in police interviews and courtrooms. Dr. Kredens' recent articles explore AI-generated text detection using Bi-LSTM networks, epistemic modality in Spanish, and occupational stress among forensic linguists. He has been recognized as a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. He teaches postgraduate courses like 'Language as Evidence' and 'Linguistics in Legal Contexts.' His professional activities include editorial roles for the 'Language and Law/Linguagem e Direito' journal and invited talks at international conferences.
