Joaquín Acevedo-Mascarúa serves as the Associate Academic Dean of the School of Engineering and Sciences at Tecnológico de Monterrey, overseeing academic portfolio management, educational innovation, and undergraduate program accreditation. Previously, he was Regional Dean for the Monterrey Region and Director of Faculty Development, playing key roles in developing the Tec21 Educational Model and Tecmilenio University's competency-based system. His educational background includes: Bachelor's and Master's in Chemical Engineering from Tecnológico de Monterrey (1987, 1990) Doctorate in Chemical Engineering from Imperial College London (1996) Awarded National System of Researchers (SNI) membership, his research spans process optimization, sustainable energy, and educational innovation. Recent work focuses on Challenge-Based Learning effectiveness, gender equity in STEM, and emergency medical device design during the pandemic. His publications reveal strong interdisciplinary connections between engineering education, sustainable development goals (particularly ODS 4, 5, 7, 9, 12, 13), and industrial applications. Scientific recognition includes: National System of Researchers (SNI) Membership Three granted patents (process optimization/environmental assessment) With over 40 publications and 50 industry collaborations (including BASF, BP, Pemex), he has directed major academic units like the Chemical Engineering Department and Environmental Quality Center. His current work supports Central/South American universities in educational model development while advancing gender equity initiatives and sustainable engineering solutions.
