Prof. José L. Moraga Gonzalez is a Full Professor of Microeconomics at the Department of Economics, Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (VU), School of Business and Economics. He holds research fellowships at Tinbergen Institute, CEPR, and other institutions. His expertise spans consumer search models, industrial organization, energy economics, and R&D networks. He has served as Co-Editor of the International Journal of Industrial Organization and Associate Editor of the Journal of Industrial Economics . Notable contributions include work on consumer search costs, mergers, and innovation portfolios. Education: PhD from University Carlos III Madrid. Former roles include positions at IESE Business School, University of Groningen, Erasmus University Rotterdam, and University of Copenhagen. Awards include Marie Curie Grants (1998, 2007) and an NWO grant for a PhD project. Research focuses on information frictions in consumer and labor markets, two-sided markets, R&D networks, and energy economics. He founded the Workshop on Search and Switching Costs (WSSC) and advises on energy policy in Brussels. Recent work addresses start-up acquisitions, platform economics, and hydrogen market regulation. Teaching includes courses on microeconomics, industrial organization, game theory, and regulation. Ancillary activities include roles as Directeur at ERCP/Zuidhorn and affiliation with Telecom Paris. His research contributes to UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and sustainable cities.
