Associate Professor
Maxime Montembeault is an Associate Professor at the Department of Psychology at Université de Montréal and holds a joint appointment as Assistant Professor in the Department of Psychiatry at McGill University , where he is also affiliated with the Douglas Research Centre . He completed his PhD in neuropsychology at Université de Montréal (2019) and a postdoctoral fellowship at the Memory & Aging Center, University of California San Francisco (2019–2022). Education: PhD in Neuropsychology, Université de Montréal (2019) Postdoctoral training at UCSF Memory & Aging Center (2019–2022) Research Focus: His work centers on neurodegenerative diseases, particularly Alzheimer’s disease and frontotemporal dementia, with an emphasis on early diagnosis and tracking disease progression using digital cognitive markers and multimodal neuroimaging. Key interests include language deficits, socioemotional impairments, and their neural correlates in neurodegenerative populations. He has pioneered studies on speech analysis and socioemotional semantics in behavioral variant FTD. Publications Overview: Over 60 peer-reviewed articles, including high-impact studies on plasma biomarkers for Alzheimer’s prediction, functional brain connectomics in posterior cortical atrophy, and speech-based diagnostic tools for neurodegenerative disorders. Recent work explores plasma p-tau217 and GFAP as predictive biomarkers in preclinical AD. Advising: Supervised PhD student Vanessa Zayed on word-finding deficits in mild cognitive impairment (2022). Active in mentoring students through McGill and Université de Montréal programs. Labs/Teams: Leads the Montembeault Lab at McGill, focusing on digital tools for neurodegenerative disease assessment. Collaborates with international consortia (e.g., PCA International Work Group, Genetic FTD Initiative).
