Dr. R. Sankararamakrishnan is a Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences & Bioengineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kanpur. With a PhD in Molecular Biophysics from the Indian Institute of Science Bangalore, he has established himself as a leading researcher in computational approaches to membrane protein function. His research program focuses on two major areas: the investigation of water-transporting aquaporin channels and the superfamily of major intrinsic proteins across different species, and understanding the molecular recognition mechanisms between pro- and anti-apoptotic Bcl-2 family members. His laboratory employs a sophisticated combination of sequence analysis tools, structural bioinformatics approaches, and molecular dynamics simulations to address these complex biological problems. His publication record demonstrates consistent contributions to high-impact journals in bioinformatics, structural biology, and computational chemistry. His work spans membrane biophysics, protein structure analysis, and molecular interactions, with particular emphasis on aquaporins, Bcl-2 family proteins, and membrane bilayer properties. National Bioscience Award for Career Development (2008) Joy Gill Chair Professor for young faculty (2007-2010) U.S.V. Chair Professor (2011-2014) Commendation letters for excellence in teaching 'Structural Biology and Biophysics' and 'Bioinformatics and Computational Biology' courses Dr. Sankararamakrishnan's educational background includes a PhD in Molecular Biophysics from IISc Bangalore (1993), an M.Sc. in Mathematics from Madurai Kamaraj University (1986), and a B.Sc. in Mathematics & Chemistry from the same institution (1984), demonstrating his strong interdisciplinary foundation for computational biology research.
