Associate Professor
Dr. Patrice Tankam is an Associate Professor at the Indiana University School of Optometry, specializing in biomedical optics and corneal imaging. He holds a Ph.D. in Optical Sciences from Université du Maine, France, and has conducted postdoctoral research at Institut d’Optique Rhone-Alpes and the University of Rochester's Institute of Optics. His work focuses on developing advanced optical techniques like optical coherence tomography (OCT) and microscopy for corneal disease diagnosis and ophthalmic applications. Educations: Bachelor in Mathematics & Physics (2004) - University of Yaoundé I, Cameroon M.S. in Optical Engineering (2007) - Université du Maine, France Ph.D. in Optical Sciences (2010) - Université du Maine, France Research Interests: Corneal imaging, optical metrology, interferometry, light-tissue interaction, OCT advancements, and fluorescence microscopy. His work bridges optical engineering with clinical ophthalmology to improve diagnostic tools for corneal diseases and ocular surface analysis. Articles & Contributions: His recent work explores polarization effects in OCT (2024), non-invasive corneal imaging (2023), and high-speed multimodal microscopy systems (2022). These studies advance cellular-resolution imaging for corneal disease pathways and clinical applications. Awards & Memberships: Active member of The Optical Society (OSA) and Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO). Serves as a reviewer for journals like Optics Letters and Biomedical Optics Express. Labs & Teams: Leads the Tankam Lab at Indiana University, focusing on optical instrumentation and corneal disease imaging. Collaborates on projects involving MEMS-based probes and Gabor-domain OCT systems.
