Lecturer
Kieran Pender is an Honorary Lecturer at the ANU College of Law and a senior lawyer at the Human Rights Law Centre. A graduate of ANU (with a university medal), his expertise spans constitutional law, private international law, employment law, anti-discrimination law, and whistleblower protections. He is internationally recognized for leading the Human Rights Law Centre’s Whistleblower Project and has authored/co-authored numerous reports on whistleblowing. Education : BA (Hons) and LLB (Hons) from ANU Research Interests : Focuses on whistleblower protections, legal ethics, press freedom, open justice, and the implied freedom of political communication. Has contributed to landmark analyses of sexual harassment damages in the #MeToo era and global anti-corruption whistleblower frameworks. Awards : Young Lawyer of the Year (2021) Pro Bono/Community Lawyer of the Year (2022) ANU Young Alumnus of the Year (2022) Professional Roles : Serves on boards including Women Onside (deputy chair), Victorian Courts Council’s Health, Safety and Culture Committee, and advisory bodies for the Law Council of Australia and Global Institute for Women’s Leadership. Previously advised the International Bar Association in London. Teaching : Currently teaches Conflict of Laws at ANU (LAWS4212 and LAWS8144).
