Mehrdad Kimiaei is a Senior Lecturer at the School of Earth and Oceans, The University of Western Australia, and affiliated with the UWA Oceans Institute. His research focuses on offshore structural engineering under extreme environmental conditions, with contributions to UN Sustainable Development Goals for sustainable infrastructure. Dr. Kimiaei's expertise spans structural reliability of offshore platforms , risers and mooring lines engineering , extreme response analysis , seismic soil-structure interaction , and fatigue design of structural components . His work integrates probabilistic methods with practical engineering solutions for offshore facilities operating in cyclonic conditions and seismic zones. Recent publications (2023-2024) demonstrate a concentrated focus on Fiber Reinforced Polymer (FRP) composites for offshore applications. His research examines bolted/bonded connections, flexural behavior of tubular structures, and column stability under axial/eccentric loading. These studies advance methodologies for structural repair and durability assessment in harsh marine environments. Dr. Kimiaei has secured four major industry-funded research grants and supervised 11 research students. His collaborative projects with Woodside Energy and Fuse Solutions address critical challenges in offshore structural integrity, including FRP composite repairs and deep-sea ROV development. As part of the UWA Oceans Institute, he collaborates with multidisciplinary teams utilizing experimental testing facilities and numerical modeling groups to develop innovative solutions for offshore energy infrastructure, with current projects extending through 2025.
