Assistant Professor
Gizem Hediye EREN serves as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Industrial Design at Ege University's School of Fashion and Design. She holds a strong academic background with undergraduate and doctoral degrees from Middle East Technical University (METU) and a master's degree from Anadolu University. Dr. EREN's research focuses on user-centered design with special emphasis on child users, design education methodologies, sustainability, and circular design approaches. Her work demonstrates innovative applications of digital tools in design research, particularly utilizing user-generated online content for exploring unfamiliar problem domains and hard-to-access user groups. She has developed generative toolkits that help design students analyze online videos to generate design insights. Her publication record from 2017-2022 shows consistent scholarly output across diverse topics including emotionally durable product design, pediatric healthcare environments, urban identity analysis through experimental cartography, and semiotic analysis of artistic works. Her research often bridges theoretical frameworks with practical design applications. Dr. EREN actively supervises design students, as evidenced by her work with 75 senior industrial design students at Anadolu University on pediatric examination environment projects. Her teaching appears closely aligned with her research interests, emphasizing hands-on experience and research-through-design processes. She maintains active collaborations with colleagues across Turkish design institutions, particularly with Fatma Korkut, Merve Buldaç, and other researchers in the field. Her work contributes significantly to advancing design methodology and pedagogy in the Turkish academic context.
