Professor
Professor Jolieke van der Pols is a faculty member in the School of Exercise & Nutrition Sciences at Queensland University of Technology (QUT) , within the Faculty of Health. Her research focuses on sustainable diets, food systems innovation, and the epidemiology of cancer and chronic diseases. She has held roles such as Program Lead for Food Innovation at the Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy and Deputy Program Lead for the Commonwealth Government’s Food and Beverage Accelerator Trailblazer Program. Education: MSc in Human Nutrition (Wageningen University, 1993), PhD (University of Cambridge, 2000). She also holds a Graduate Certificate in Higher Education from the University of Queensland and is a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (UK). Research Interests: Sustainable food systems, life cycle assessment (LCA), clinical trials, and the role of nutrition in cancer prevention. Her work aligns with UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly addressing health and environmental impacts of diets. Teaching & Awards: Passionate about student engagement and innovative teaching methods, she has received multiple Teaching Excellence awards. She advises on PhD/MPhil projects focusing on sustainable diets and food innovation. Professional Roles: Member of the Nutrition Society of Australia, Australian Life Cycle Assessment Society, and Australian Institute of Company Directors. She contributed to global initiatives with the FAO and UNEP on food sustainability. Labs/Teams: Leads projects in food innovation and sustainable diets through QUT’s research centers, collaborating with international organizations to advance equitable food systems.
