Dr. Byungik Chang is a Professor of Civil Engineering and Chair of the Civil and Environmental Engineering Department at the University of New Haven's Tagliatela College of Engineering. He holds a Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (Structural Engineering) from Iowa State University (2007), an MBA from West Texas A&M University (2012), and prior degrees from Iowa State University. Before joining UNH, he was an Assistant Professor and Director of the Alternative Energy Institute at West Texas A&M, and worked at the Arizona Department of Transportation. His expertise spans structural engineering, wind engineering, wind energy, and infrastructure resilience , with a focus on numerical modeling and highway agency projects. He has advised numerous students on research projects and contributed to over 50 peer-reviewed publications. His recent work addresses pandemic impacts on transportation projects, sustainable building systems, and lightweight concrete materials. Dr. Chang also engages in public discourse on infrastructure safety and sustainable construction practices, as seen in media features like CBS News and Point2Homes. His teaching includes courses on structural analysis, steel/concrete design, bridge engineering, and wind engineering. He actively collaborates with industry partners on applied research, such as optimizing photovoltaic installations and improving bridge design methodologies.
