Associate Professor
Oliver Bonham-Carter is an Associate Professor in the Computer Science Department at Allegheny College. He earned a B.S. in Biology from Creighton University, an M.S. in Mathematics from the University of Nebraska at Omaha, and a Ph.D. in Information Science and Technology with a bioinformatics specialization from the University of Nebraska at Omaha. Education: B.S. (Biology), M.S. (Mathematics), Ph.D. (Information Technology, Bioinformatics) Research: Gene expression analysis, text mining of scientific literature, bioinformatics-driven encryption His research explores bioinformatics through three main facets: (1) statistical pattern detection in biological big data, (2) signal localization in protein regions, and (3) text mining of PubMed literature. He developed tools like GenExSt for gene interaction analysis and BeagleTM for literature connectivity mapping. Recent articles focus on ethical pedagogy in CS education (2024), text mining for disease-related gene correlations (2023-2021), and mitochondrial protein stress responses (2016). These works span computational biology, data analysis, and responsible technology design.
