Dr. Huda Salman is a Chartered Architectural Technologist and Lecturer in Architectural Technology at the Scott Sutherland School of Architecture, Robert Gordon University. She is an active member of the Energy, Environment & Sustainability in Architecture Research Group and serves as the School's Research Degree Coordinator, organizing annual research seminars for PhD students and staff. Her educational background includes a PhD in Architecture - Education from Robert Gordon University (2005-2010), an MSc in Computer Aided Architectural Design (CAAD) and Construction (2003-2004), a Post Graduate Certificate in Research Methods with Distinction (2006), and a BSc in Architecture (1991-1996). Her research foundation in digital design platforms and communication has led to expertise in applying 3D data for decision making, planning strategies, public participation, and sustainability. Dr. Salman's research spans design thinking, collaboration digital platforms, computer-aided architectural design, sustainable design methods, BIM/digital twins, and the emerging field of Generative AI in architectural education. Her recent work focuses on embodied water management in sustainable construction, sustainable redevelopment of abandoned infrastructure in Nigeria, and the implications of locally-sourced cross-laminated timber in Scotland. She has published in leading journals including Design Studies, with her PhD work examining the impact of computer-aided architectural design programs on conceptual design in educational contexts. Her scientific recognitions include: Chartered Architectural Technologist (MCIAT) status (2013) Elsevier Outstanding Reviewer for Design Studies (2016) Membership on the ESRC Peer Review College (2025) Scientific Committee for the International SEEDS Conference (2024) ASCAAD vice precedent (2020-2024) As a supervisor, Dr. Salman has four successful PhD completions and currently guides nine PhD students across diverse topics including sustainable construction, digital twins, water management, and infrastructure redevelopment. She is leading a significant project on Generative AI in architectural education and has served as an expert reviewer for the European Commission's Horizon 2020 program. Her teaching expertise spans Architectural Technology modules, Design Technology, Building Information Modelling, and Research Methods. Dr. Salman's research group focuses on integrating digital technologies with sustainable design practices, addressing critical global challenges related to water scarcity, carbon emissions, and resource efficiency in the built environment. Her work consistently connects theoretical research with practical applications in architectural education and professional practice.
