Professor
Bradford E Hinze serves as the Karl Rahner, S.J. Professor of Theology at Fordham University's Department of Theology on the Rose Hill Campus in the Bronx, New York. His scholarship centers on ecclesial dialogue practices, synodal development, and theological responses to contemporary crises within the Catholic Church and broader society. His academic formation includes: B.A. in Philosophy from St. Thomas University (1976) M.A. in Theology from Catholic University of America (1978) Ph.D. in Theology from the University of Chicago (1989) Hinze's research explores three converging trajectories: (1) synodality as dialogue practice across Catholic, ecumenical, interreligious, and secular contexts; (2) conflict and lamentation dynamics in ecclesial life regarding women's ordination, LGBTQ inclusion, and racial justice; and (3) decolonial transformation of synodal structures. His work integrates hermeneutics, critical theory, and pneumatology to address institutional reform through prophetic obedience and structural justice. His 2013-2023 publications reveal consistent thematic evolution from doctrinal development studies to urgent engagement with abuse crises, synodal constraints, and decolonial imperatives. Articles demonstrate methodological integration of historical analysis, critical theory, and pneumatological reflection, consistently centering marginalized voices and lamentation as catalysts for ecclesial renewal within post-colonial and post-abuse contexts.
