Assistant Professor
Margaret McGuinness is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Aerospace and Mechanical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame. She holds a Ph.D. (2021), M.S. (2017), and B.S. (2015) in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University and MIT, respectively. Her research focuses on innovative robotic systems for human health, safety, and productivity. Robot Design and Modeling Soft Robotics Bioinspired Robotics Field Robotics Human-in-the-loop Control Physical Human-Robot Interaction Margaret’s publications highlight advancements in soft robotic systems, including vine robots for confined space navigation (2022), sensor network deployment via soft growing robots (2021), and vine robot teleoperation applications (2020). These works intersect energy infrastructure inspection, rehabilitation robotics, and autonomous exploration. She received the 2025 Inaugural Mentorship Award and contributes to the IRIS Lab. Her work includes developing a soft robotic exosuit and exploring remote telepresence systems.
