Dr.nat.techn. Florian Kunz M.Sc. is an interdisciplinary wildlife ecologist at the Institute of Wildlife Biology and Game Management , part of the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Vienna (BOKU) , with an associated scientist role at the Natural History Museum Vienna since 2022. Specializing in analytical methods, landscape genetics, and conservation planning, he integrates spatial modeling with population genetics to address biodiversity loss and wildlife management challenges. Education: Ph.D. in Conservation Genetics (BOKU, 2019), Master's in Wildlife Ecology (BOKU, 2017), Bachelor's in Environment and Bio-Resources Management (BOKU, 2015) Research Interests span wildlife ecology, conservation genetics, and land-use planning. His work connects functional connectivity assessments with metapopulation dynamics to inform conservation strategies for alpine species like black grouse. He advances WildÖkologische RaumPlanung (WÖRP) , a framework for wildlife-informed spatial planning, and applies computational tools (e.g., RStudio) to ecological challenges. Recent Publications focus on genetic diversity in fragmented habitats, wolf population viability, and GIS-driven conservation planning. Key themes include climate adaptation, human-wildlife conflict mitigation, and interdisciplinary policy translation.
