Vassalos Vasilios is an Associate Professor at the Department of Informatics, School of Information Sciences and Technology, Athens University of Economics and Business (AUEB). He holds a Diploma in Electrical Engineering from NTUA (1994), an M.Sc. in Computer Science from Stanford University (1998), and a Ph.D. in Computer Science from Stanford University (2000). His research focuses on databases, web-based information systems, and semi-structured data processing. His work specifically addresses integrated search algorithms in autonomous, heterogeneous information sources with emphasis on semi-structured data (particularly XML), the extension of database technologies to the World Wide Web, integration of web services, and peer-to-peer data processing. His recent publications demonstrate expertise in sensor network data analysis, query optimization techniques, peer-to-peer network analysis, view-based query answering, and XML query processing. His work shows a consistent thread of improving data integration and query performance across heterogeneous systems. Dr. Vassalos has participated in significant research projects including the PENED 2003 program, PYTHAGORAS II program, and Marie Curie Outgoing International Fellowship. His applied work extends to technological entrepreneurship as the founder and CTO of Enosys Software, Inc., which developed platforms for querying and integrating heterogeneous information sources. Member of the Board of Directors of the Information Society Observatory Member of the Special Scientific Committee of the Hellenic Council for Electronic Governance Member of the W3C Advisory Board (2000-2003) Member of the W3C XML Query Working Group (2000-2003) He serves on program committees of major international conferences including ACM SIGMOD, VLDB, and ICDE, and reviews for leading journals such as ACM Transactions on Databases and IEEE Transactions on Knowledge and Data Engineering.
