Professor
Jan Michael Rost is Director of the Atomic, Molecular and Optical (AMO) Department Finite Systems at the Max Planck Institute for the Physics of Complex Systems in Dresden. His research encompasses theoretical and computational physics with focus on quantum dynamics in atomic and molecular systems under extreme conditions. Research Interests: Strong-field laser interactions with atoms, molecules and clusters Rydberg atom physics and ultracold quantum systems Quantum dynamics of correlated electron systems Attosecond physics and ultrafast processes Computational methods for quantum many-body problems Recent publications demonstrate strong focus on electron dynamics in intense laser fields, Rydberg systems, quantum control, and nanoscale quantum phenomena. The research combines theoretical modeling with computational simulations to explore fundamental quantum processes. Research Group Leadership: Supervises group leaders in specialized areas: complex dynamics (Thomas Pohl), quantum aggregates (Alexander Eisfeld), and ultrashort light-matter interaction (Alexandra Landsman) Manages team of staff scientists, postdoctoral researchers, and doctoral students Hosts international visiting scientists and research fellows
