Teaching Professor
Justin S. Bois is a Teaching Professor in the Division of Biology and Biological Engineering at the California Institute of Technology (Caltech). He holds a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from Caltech (2007) and a B.S. in Chemical Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign (1999). His academic career includes roles as a postdoc at UCLA (2011–2013), a Visiting Scientist at the Max Planck Institutes in Dresden (2007–2010), and prior teaching roles at Caltech. Bois specializes in teaching and research at the intersection of data analysis, biophysics, and biological systems. He designs and instructs courses such as Data Analysis in the Biological Sciences , Design Principles of Genetic Circuits , and Biophysical Chemistry . His research focuses on statistical thinking in biology, cellular mechanics, and computational tools for nucleic acid systems (e.g., NUPACK).
