Senior Lecturer
Elaine Dewhurst is a Senior Lecturer in Employment Law at the University of Manchester's School of Law. Her research focuses on employment law, particularly age discrimination and the rights of irregular immigrants. She holds a first-class BCL (2004) and a PhD (2009) from University College Cork, funded by the E.J. Phelan Fellowship. Her work bridges employment and immigration law, examining systemic gaps affecting immigrants' equality rights. She has held visiting roles at institutions including the Max Planck Institute and CEU Cardenal Herrera University. Her research projects include age discrimination in recruitment/termination, rights of irregular immigrants, and EU law intersections. She is affiliated with the Manchester Interdisciplinary Collaboration for Research on Aging and the Fairness at Work Research Group. Awards include the Manchester Culture Award 2022 for Equality Promotion and the FWO Review College Expert designation. Her recent publications analyze gender discrimination, pandemic labor impacts, and EU anti-discrimination frameworks, emphasizing policy reform and legal inclusivity.
