Assistant Professor
Dr. Sonia González-Navarro is an Assistant Professor at the Department of Computer Architecture , University of Malaga, Spain. She has been teaching since 2002 and holds a M.S. in Mathematics (2000) and a Ph.D. in Informatics (2006) from the University of Malaga. Her research focuses on computer arithmetic , particularly the design of arithmetic units for decimal numbers, and previously modeled distributed video-on-demand systems using queueing theory. Her research group, Arquitecturas de Aplicación Específica y Aritmética Computacional , led by Prof. Julio Villalba, has produced notable work on decimal arithmetic units and online addition algorithms. Her publications emphasize hardware design for decimal arithmetic operations, including multioperand addition and rounding units. Earlier work included analytical models for distributed VoD systems, focusing on load sharing and resource optimization. Dr. González-Navarro currently advises Carlos García Vega (shared with Prof. Villalba). Her teaching includes undergraduate courses in Computer Technology and Operating Systems , as well as a master's course on High-Performance and Embedded Architectures . She is actively involved in academic service and collaborations, with over 15 peer-reviewed publications spanning computer arithmetic, hardware design, and distributed systems research.
