Associate Professor
David M. Miles, PhD, is an Associate Professor and Deputy Director of Research Operations at the University of Iowa's Department of Physics and Astronomy. His research focuses on experimental space physics, spaceflight instrumentation, and the interpretation of space-based magnetic field measurements. He leads the Miles Research Lab, contributing to space weather studies and solar-terrestrial interactions. Education: PhD in Physics from the University of Alberta. His work involves developing high-resolution instrumentation for space missions, including serving as Instrument Co-PI for the Cassiope/e-POP spacecraft's magnetic field instrument and PI for the Ex-Alta 1 CubeSat project. His research addresses auroral dynamics and plasma physics in near-Earth space environments. David mentors students in CubeSat development and space instrumentation. His lab emphasizes interdisciplinary approaches to advancing space science.
