Matthew Hibberd is a Full Professor and Dean at the Faculty of Communication, Culture and Society, Università della Svizzera italiana (USI), Lugano, Switzerland. He has held previous professorial positions at the University of Stirling (UK), LUISS University (Rome), and the Pontifical Gregorian University (Rome), demonstrating extensive international academic leadership. His research focuses on Media Management, Media Economics, Media and Cultural Industries, Climate Change Communication, Media Policy, and Public Service Broadcasting . He investigates how media institutions adapt to digital transformation, how audiences engage with evolving content formats, and how communication shapes public understanding of critical issues like climate change and crisis management. His recent publications reflect a strong trend in media policy, environmental communication, and audience transformation , often employing qualitative and mixed methods such as interviews, focus groups, and content analysis. His work spans comparative international studies, particularly between the UK, India, and South-East Asia. Scientific Awards: Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) Fellow of the UK College of Teachers (FCollT) Professor Hibberd has served as Principal Investigator on numerous high-impact, internationally funded research projects, including those supported by the UKIERI, AHRC, ESRC, Carnegie Trust, and the Broadcasting Standards Commission . His advisory role in government reviews, such as the UK Prime Minister’s Office report on video games and the Byron Review on Children and New Technology, highlights his influence on public policy. He has mentored students and researchers through large collaborative programs and continues to lead innovative research through USI and European COST Actions. He is affiliated with the Institute of Media and Journalism (IMeG) at USI, where he contributes to cutting-edge research on media transformation, digital cultures, and societal change.
