Carolyn Bertozzi is the Baker Family Director of Sarafan ChEM-H and the Anne T. and Robert M. Bass Professor at Stanford University's School of Humanities and Sciences. She holds courtesy appointments in Chemical and Systems Biology and Radiology, and is an Investigator of the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. A graduate of Harvard University (BS, 1988) and UC Berkeley (PhD, 1993), she transitioned from UC Berkeley (1996) to Stanford in 2015, where she co-directs Sarafan ChEM-H. Academic Leadership: Co-Director, Sarafan ChEM-H Teaching Recognition: UC Berkeley Distinguished Teaching Award (2001), Donald Sterling Noyce Prize (2001) Her research bridges chemistry and biology, focusing on cell surface glycosylation in disease states. Her lab develops diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for cancer, inflammation, and bacterial infections, with recent emphasis on immuno-oncology and glycoimmune checkpoints. Recent publications highlight advancements in lysosomal targeting, bioorthogonal chemistry, and tumor microenvironment reprogramming. Her work spans glycoproteomics, RNA glycosylation, and engineered proteases for disease applications.
