Dr. Deborah Wilson is a Professor of Psychology and graduate faculty member at Southern Arkansas University (SAU), affiliated with the Dempsey College of Liberal and Performing Arts and the Department of Behavioral and Social Sciences. She holds an MS in Counseling Psychology from the University of Central Arkansas (1992) and a PhD in General Psychology with an education emphasis from Walden University (2012). Previously licensed as a psychological examiner and independent practitioner, she retired her license in 2023. Her career includes roles as a community mental health counselor, psychoeducational examiner for public schools, and adjunct instructor at SAU. She served as SAU’s Title IX Coordinator, department chair of Behavioral and Social Sciences, and interim dean of the Dempsey College. Dr. Wilson is a former board chair of the Women’s Crisis Center of South Arkansas. Her research focuses on children’s issues, including racial disparities in special education, relationship violence, and mental health. Notable awards include SAU’s Honor Professor (2016) and the Mulerider Spirit Award (2017, 2019). Her recent work explores college students’ perceptions of contraception, TikTok’s societal impact, childhood trauma effects, and relationship violence across developmental stages. Presentations span conferences like the Southwestern Social Science Association and the International Family Violence and Child Victimization Research Conference. Dr. Wilson’s contributions extend to academic advising efficacy, stalking prevalence studies, and community-driven educational strategies. She has mentored collaborative research teams and engaged in policy discussions around equity in education and mental health interventions.
