Associate Professor
Mario Aschauer is an Associate Professor of Musicology and Coordinator of Musicology at Sam Houston State University's School of Music, where he also directs the Center for Early Music Research and Performance. A distinguished scholar-performer, he combines academic research with practical applications in historical performance practice. MA in harpsichord performance (University of Music and Performing Arts, Vienna) MPhil and PhD in musicology (University of Vienna) Postdoctoral fellow and visiting lecturer at Yale School of Music His research focuses on: Historical performance practice in 18th-19th century keyboard music German keyboard treatises and pedagogical traditions Anton Bruckner's compositional process Edition of classical and romantic piano works Continuo playing on historical instruments Collaboration with early music ensembles Publications include Bärenreiter editions of Schubert's piano sonatas, Mozart's K. 331 sonata, and critical completions of Beethoven drafts. Current projects involve a book on Bruckner's sketches and drafts.
