Assistant Professor
Marianna Lewicka serves as Assistant Professor (adiunkt) with habilitation at the Ignacy Jan Paderewski Academy of Music in Poznan, employed since 2011 within the Institute of Conducting where she currently holds the position of vice-director. Her academic and artistic work centers on choral conducting, with specialized focus on choral traditions spanning Renaissance to contemporary eras, sacred music practices, and Polish musical heritage. Her educational credentials include a PhD (2015) and habilitation (2019) from Polish music academies, with doctoral research examining "Choral singing as a source of inspiration for Renaissance and contemporary composers." The habilitation artistic portfolio featured critically acclaimed recordings including "Contemporary Choral Music" with Lumen Vocale ensemble and "Media Vita" featuring Marek Raczyński's works. Lewicka's research interrogates the continuity between historical choral practices and modern composition, particularly exploring Gregorian chant's influence, Francis Poulenc's surrealist choral techniques, and national motifs in Polish sacred music. Her scholarly approach bridges liturgical context with artistic interpretation, emphasizing how historical traditions inform contemporary choral expression and conductor identity within religious frameworks. Conference presentations since 2016 demonstrate consistent thematic focus on choral analysis, with recurrent examination of Arvo Pärt's spiritual minimalism, Poulenc's compositional innovations, and Bogurodzica's role in Polish musical identity. These contributions reveal an integrated methodology connecting musicological research with practical conducting techniques across historical periods. Her artistic achievements have earned significant recognition including: Medal of the Ministry of Culture – Meritorious for Polish Culture (2017) Multiple Rector's Team Awards (2015-2023) Grand Prix at Legnica Cantat (2015) and Grieg International Choir Festival (2016) National conductor awards across multiple competitions (2010-2019) Through mentorship in the National Competition of Choral Conductors and leadership of ensembles like the University Choir (since 2022), Sołacki Chamber Choir (since 2006), and LUMEN VOCALE (2011-2021), Lewicka cultivates emerging talent while producing award-winning recordings that document Poland's choral evolution. Her organizational roles in Grand Prix of Polish Choral Music and academic conferences further extend her influence on national choral development. Lewicka maintains active artistic-scholarly integration through the Institute of Conducting, where her leadership shapes curriculum and performance standards. Current projects continue exploring intersections between sacred texts and musical composition, with recent work examining Passion motifs in Poulenc's motets and Eucharistic aesthetics in contemporary liturgical music.
