Alessandra Gianelli is a Full Professor of International Law at the Department of Legal and Economic Studies , Sapienza University of Rome . She has held leadership roles including Director of the Department of Public Legal Studies at the University of Teramo (2009–2013) and Co-Director of the Rivista di diritto internazionale (2017–present). Her teaching spans International Law, European Human Rights, and International Trade Law, with guest lectures at Temple University Rome. Education: PhD in International Law (Sapienza University of Rome, 1991), Master of Laws (Yale Law School, 1990), Master of Laws (European University Institute, 1985), Law Degree (University of Ferrara, 1983). Research Focus: Her scholarship examines state responsibility, international human rights, customary law, and EU legal integration. She leads the PRIN 2022 Social Cohesion and International Law and has participated in interdisciplinary projects like Progetto Polis . Publications & Conferences: Gianelli has authored over 20 articles (2016–2025) on topics like torture criminalization, future generations' rights, and state immunities. She has presented at institutions including Sapienza University, University of Athens, and the University of Groningen. Her work emphasizes the interplay between positivism and state sovereignty in international jurisprudence. Scientific Leadership: She has served as a referee for international journals, evaluator for the Italian Ministry of Education, and judge on recruitment committees for academic and doctoral positions across Italy.
