Assistant Professor
Dr. Gina Kling is an Assistant Professor of Mathematics at Hope College, where she teaches future elementary school teachers. Prior to joining Hope College in 2023, she spent 20 years at Western Michigan University as an instructor and researcher in mathematics education. Her work focuses on improving how children learn basic math facts through games, visual imagery, and alternative assessments. She advocates for games and visual imagery to foster meaningful understanding of math concepts. Her work also explores alternative assessment methods, such as observation and interviewing, to more accurately measure student fluency and inform pedagogical strategies. Her publications and curriculum development projects, including the fourth edition of Everyday Mathematics and the book Math Fact Fluency , highlight her commitment to providing practical tools for educators. Current research projects investigate visual imagery for multiplication strategies and teacher interviewing techniques in computational fluency.
