Thor Ole Gulsrud is an Associate Professor and Deputy Dean for Research and Innovation at the Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Stavanger. He previously led the Department of Quality and Health Technology (2018–2022) and served as Research Director for Technology at NORCE (formerly IRIS). His expertise spans medical technology, medical signal/image processing, and oil & gas. He holds a PhD in computer-aided breast cancer detection, collaborating closely with radiologists at Stavanger University Hospital. He also led the Drilling & Wells team at SINTEF and worked at National Oilwell Varco. His research focuses on medical imaging algorithms, data-driven healthcare solutions, and cross-industry technology transfer between oil/gas and medicine. Notable contributions include Norway Pumps & Pipes, a platform bridging these sectors. His education includes a PhD with a focus on computer-based breast cancer detection, alongside extensive postdoctoral experience in both academia and industry.
