Professor
Jonas Olofsson is a Full Professor of Psychology at Stockholm University, where he leads the Sensory Cognitive Interaction Laboratory. His research explores the intersection of olfaction, memory, and emotion, with a focus on how smell influences cognitive processes. He investigates olfactory markers for dementia, odor-naming challenges, and therapeutic applications of smell-based interventions. His work employs behavioral experiments and neuroimaging techniques. Olofsson holds a PhD from Umeå University (2008) and a docentship from Stockholm University (2009). He has held affiliations with Northwestern University, The Scripps Research Institute, Karolinska Institutet, and New York University. His research is funded by the Swedish Research Council, Wallenberg Foundations, and the Swedish e-Science Research Centre. His recent publications emphasize olfactory dysfunction in aging and post-COVID contexts, virtual reality applications for smell training, and cross-cultural studies of odor perception. Articles frequently integrate neuroscience, psychology, and computational methods to decode sensory-cognitive interactions. Awards include: Member of Academia Europaea (2021) Wallenberg Academy Fellow (2016) Fulker Award for best article in Behavior Genetics (2009) Swedish National Committee Prize for Young Researchers (2010) He directs the Sensory Cognitive Interaction Laboratory, coordinating interdisciplinary projects on olfactory perception and its clinical applications.
