Lindsay J. Whaley is a Professor of Classics and Linguistics at Dartmouth College, affiliated with the Department of Classics. Her work focuses on endangered languages, language typology, Tungusic and Greek linguistics, and Indo-European studies. She holds a B.A. from Calvin College and M.A./Ph.D. degrees from the State University of New York at Buffalo. Her research explores intersections of language, environment, and colonial history. Notable projects include analyzing environmental impacts on Alaska Native languages and examining colonial legacies in U.S. toponymy. She co-edited volumes on Tungusic linguistics and European/North Asian language diversity. Teaching responsibilities include introductory linguistics, syntax, language typology, and Greek language courses. Current projects involve investigating language-land-environment relationships. Active in academic publishing and editorial work, she maintains an interdisciplinary focus bridging linguistics with environmental and historical studies.
