Yangmo Ku serves as Professor and Chair of the Department of History and Political Science at Norwich University's College of Arts & Sciences, while also holding the position of Associate Director for the John and Mary Frances Patton Peace & War Center and editor of the Journal of Peace and War Studies (JPWS). He holds a B.A. in German language and literature from Sogang University in Seoul, an M.A. in international affairs, and a Ph.D. in political science from George Washington University. Prior to joining Norwich in July 2012, he taught at American University's School of International Service. Professor Ku specializes in North/South Korean politics, East Asian security dynamics, U.S. foreign policy formulation, and comparative studies of memory politics and reconciliation processes across East Asia and Europe. His research bridges theoretical frameworks with contemporary security challenges, particularly regarding Korean Peninsula denuclearization and historical justice mechanisms. He has published extensively in top-tier journals and co-authored the 2018 Routledge volume 'Politics in North and South Korea: Political Development, Economy, and Foreign Relations', with current work focused on reconciliation models in Japan and Germany. Through the Peace & War Center, Ku actively engages government stakeholders by delivering specialized training on North Korean nuclear issues to U.S. federal agencies and participates in community initiatives like the Vermont Council on World Affairs' 'Peace in Progress' program that connects academic research with real-world peacebuilding applications.
