Ashley Hopkins is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Journalism & Public Relations at California State University, Long Beach (CSULB), where she teaches courses in media literacy, multiplatform reporting, media law and ethics, social media convergence, and public speaking. Prior to joining CSULB, she worked as an assistant professor at Augusta University and served as a county reporter for Miami Today. Her research focuses on digital privacy, media effects, and political communication, with emphasis on social issues like immigration, healthcare, and transgender media coverage. Bachelor’s in Media Arts and Design (Print Journalism), James Madison University Master’s in Journalism (Magazine Writing), Northwestern University Ph.D. in Journalism, Ohio University Dr. Hopkins’ experimental research investigates how users interact with terms and conditions of mobile applications, analyzing information commodification through varying motivation and opportunity. She also studies media framing of social and political issues, including immigration, healthcare, and transgender representation. Her career bridges academic rigor with practical journalism experience, having reported on political developments in major metropolitan areas like Chicago and Miami. Office Location: LA4-105.
