Adjunct Associate Professor
Hans-Joachim Ruff-Stahl is an Adjunct Associate Professor in the Department of Aeronautics at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University's Worldwide College of Aviation. He holds a Ph.D. in Cultural Science (Humboldt University), a Ph.D. in Media and Communications (European Graduate School), and advanced degrees in Aeronautical Science and Strategic Studies. His military career includes service as a German Air Force Colonel with over 3,000 flight hours in fighter aircraft (MiG-29, F-4F, T-38), roles as a fighter squadron commander, and diplomatic postings as Defense Attaché to Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, and Lithuania. Education: Ph.D. in Cultural Science, Humboldt University of Berlin Ph.D. in Media & Communications, European Graduate School M.S. in Aeronautical Science, Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University M.S.S. in Strategic Studies, U.S. Air Force Air War College Research focuses on aviation safety, security, human factors, and strategic policy. Notable projects include the European FLYSEC initiative for airport security and integration of UAS into air traffic systems. He has published extensively on CRM, hybrid threats, and strategic failure analysis. Awards include the 2010 International Region Award (ERAU), 2007 Faculty of the Year (ERAU), and 2019 Fellowship with the Royal Aeronautical Society. Professional roles include external supervisor for City University London’s Ph.D. program and FWIC instructor. He is currently teaching courses on advanced aviation topics and thesis supervision.
