Mariachiara Zanetti is a Full Professor at the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering (DIATI) at Politecnico di Torino, where she also holds the position of Vice-Rector for Territorial, National and European Policies. She is a member of the Interdepartmental Center Ec-L - Energy Center Lab and serves as Scientific Advisor for Partnership Agreements with SMAT and Gruppo Marazzato Holding. Her academic and research leadership spans environmental engineering, sustainable development, and circular economy. Research Interests: Circular economy and resource recovery Waste and wastewater treatment technologies Gaseous pollutants modeling and air quality Reclamation of polluted soils and risk analysis Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and environmental sustainability Climate change mitigation and adaptation Her recent research publications focus on advanced wastewater treatment (e.g., MABRs, biogas upgrading), PFAS degradation, nutrient recovery, microalgae cultivation, and industrial emission control. These works reflect a strong integration of environmental science, engineering innovation, and sustainability assessment. She leads the Air Water Waste Laboratory and is involved in numerous EU-funded (e.g., Horizon, MSCA), national (PRIN), and industry-sponsored research projects. Scientific Leadership and Grants: Scientific Director of Framework Agreement with Sogesid S.p.A. (2024–2027) Principal Investigator for CRITERIA (2024–2028), CNMS-Spoke1 (2022–2025), WOP (2022–2024), REMIND (2018–2022), and several other EU and national projects Responsible for over 100 commercial and research contracts with public and private entities Advising and Teaching: She supervises multiple PhD students in Civil and Environmental Engineering and Energetics. She is a member of the PhD College in Civil and Environmental Engineering (2015–present) and teaches courses such as Applied Environmental Engineering, Resources and Environmental Sustainability, and Environmental Regulations. She also coordinates international symposia and development cooperation initiatives, particularly in India and Ethiopia. Laboratories and Teams: She leads the Air Water Waste (DIATI) Laboratory, fostering interdisciplinary research in air, water, and waste treatment technologies. Her team includes researchers, PhD candidates, and collaborators working on cutting-edge environmental solutions.
